For the base of the pergola, here are some things to note. If it’s a cement base, then use metal cores as the foundation. If it’s in the ground, make the holes about a foot or so in depth (depending on the firmness of the soil). You’ll want to dig below the frost line, for sure, but go deeper if you feel necessary.
